Good to Know About His Majesty's Theatre

Arrive early for security checks: Mandatory bag screenings are carried out at the main doors, so it is highly recommended to arrive at least 30 to 45 minutes before the performance begins.

Onsite cloakroom facilities are available: Unlike many historic West End venues, the theatre features a cloakroom where coats can be checked for a small fee alongside larger bags or suitcases.

Step-free access location: Patrons with mobility requirements can utilize a dedicated step-free entrance located on Charles II Street, which leads directly into the rear Stalls auditorium.

Cashless bar and merchandise operations: The venue relies entirely on card and contactless digital payments for all drink, snack, program, and souvenir purchases.

Prepare for dramatic sensory effects: Because it hosts The Phantom of the Opera, the production incorporates intense staging elements including sudden gunshots, flashing lights, heavy stage haze, and theatrical pyrotechnics.

Convenient at-seat hospitality: If you have limited mobility or simply wish to avoid the busy intermission bars, dedicated Access Hosts can provide a convenient at-seat drink and snack delivery service.

Auditorium temperature tips: The historic theatre can get quite warm during packed performances, particularly in the higher tiers, so dressing in light, adaptable layers is highly advised.

Strict external food policy: Outside snacks are strictly limited to cold food items and water in plastic bottles, while hot food and glassware are banned from the auditorium.

About His Majesty's Theatre

The current building of His Majesty's Theatre is the fourth playhouse to stand on this historic Haymarket site, opening its doors in 1897 under the direction of famed actor-manager Herbert Beerbohm Tree. Masterfully designed by architect Charles J. Phipps, the exterior features a stunning French Renaissance facade, while the lavish interior was explicitly inspired by the classical design of the Royal Opera of Versailles. Notably, the venue's name historically mirrors the gender of the reigning British monarch; it was officially renamed from Her Majesty's to His Majesty's Theatre in May 2023 following the accession of King Charles III.

Owned and operated by LW Theatres since 2000, this Grade II* listed landmark remains one of the West End's most enduring homes for musical theatre.

His Majesty's Theatre - Seating Info & Auditorium

Capacity & Layout: The theatre features an intimate yet grand capacity of approximately 1,216 seats arranged across four distinct levels: the Stalls at street level, followed by the Royal Circle, the Grand Circle, and the steep Balcony at the very top.
Best Sections: The middle rows of the Stalls (Rows B to H) offer an incredibly powerful, up-close connection to the stage action. For a broader view, rows A to C of the Royal Circle provide the absolute prime, panoramic perspective to witness the iconic falling chandelier and full stage illusions.
Views: Thanks to its traditional horseshoe design, sightlines are excellent across the central blocks of the lower tiers. However, budget-conscious buyers should note that the rear Stalls (Row S) experience a severe ceiling overhang restriction, and several historic support pillars scattered across the Grand Circle can create partial visual obstructions.

For patrons with accessibility needs, step-free access is provided through a dedicated alternative entrance located on Charles II Street. This street-level entry opens directly into the Stalls level, which hosts four designated wheelchair platforms in Row S alongside an adjacent accessible restroom.
