Interesting Facts About Hamilton
Lin-Manuel Miranda began writing Hamilton after reading Ron Chernow's 2004 biography Alexander Hamilton, first performing an early version of the opening number at a White House poetry evening in May 2009.
The West End production opened at the Victoria Palace Theatre on 21 December 2017, the first show to play the venue after its multi-million-pound refurbishment.
Jamael Westman, a recent RADA graduate, was cast as the original West End Alexander Hamilton in June 2017, only his third professional stage role.
Hamilton received 13 Olivier Award nominations in 2018, a record at the time for a single production.
The production went on to win 7 Olivier Awards in 2018, including Best New Musical.
The West End run introduced paperless ticketing as a measure against ticket touting.
On Broadway, Hamilton received a record 16 Tony Award nominations, won 11, and was awarded the 2016 Pulitzer Prize for Drama.
Prince Harry attended a charity gala performance of the West End production in 2018.
