ABBA Voyage puts Agnetha, Björn, Benny and Frida on stage as digital avatars, built by Industrial Light & Magic from five weeks of motion capture. The band you hear is real: ten musicians play live at every performance. The avatars show the four as they looked in 1979, and the arena around them was built for this one show.

The producers are firm on the terminology: these are avatars, not holograms.

Interesting Facts About ABBA Voyage

ABBA Voyage was the first live music project Industrial Light & Magic had taken on, and the largest job in the company's history.

The four spent five weeks in motion-capture suits in Stockholm, filmed by 160 cameras at 120 frames a second.

The arena stands 25.5 metres tall, is built largely from cross-laminated timber, and is designed to be dismantled and moved.

Wayne McGregor, resident choreographer at The Royal Ballet, worked with the band and younger body doubles on the movement.

The LED screen carries 65 million pixels, synchronised with the lighting to hold the illusion.

The show passed four million visitors in April 2026, drawn from around the world to a single venue in east London.

Pudding Mill Lane on the DLR sits directly opposite the arena, about a minute on foot.
Stratford is a 25-minute walk and carries the Central, Jubilee and Elizabeth lines, the DLR, Overground and National Rail. High-speed services use Stratford International, which is a separate station.

ABBA Arena - Facilities and Accessibility

The ABBA Arena is a four-storey timber building, with a standing Dance Floor at ground level and raked seating above. The concourse outside sits under a timber canopy, with bars and food counters open before the show.

Bars and counters serve hot and cold food, cocktails and soft drinks. Outside food and drink cannot be brought in.
Merchandise is on the concourse too. With no interval across 100 minutes, it is worth getting drinks and using the toilets before the show rather than during it.
The venue is step-free throughout. Wheelchair spaces, ambulant seats and transfer seats are spread across five accessible sections, and staff will remove fixed seats where a wheelchair needs the room. There is also a Changing Places toilet.
Ten Blue Badge parking spaces sit on the arena site, a short distance from the entrance. They have to be booked ahead of the performance.
Most of the auditorium works with the venue's closed loop hearing system, and neck loops cover the areas that do not. BSL-interpreted performances run on announced dates.
