Hercules is the son of Zeus, stripped of his immortality as a baby by Hades and raised on Earth without knowing where he came from. Getting back to Mount Olympus means working out what actually makes a hero.

Hades wants Olympus for himself, which means Hercules has to get strong enough, and then wise enough, to stop him.

Interesting Facts About Disney's Hercules

Alan Menken wanted a classical score for the film, in his words a Candide approach. Co-director John Musker pushed for gospel instead.

The world premiere was a free, open-air run at Central Park's Delacorte Theater in 2019, staged by Disney Theatrical with the Public Theater's Public Works.

Robert Horn and Kwame Kwei-Armah's book was reworked twice before London, for the Paper Mill Playhouse in 2023 and the Neue Flora in Hamburg from 2024.

Casey Nicholaw directs and choreographs, with Tanisha Scott co-choreographing. He co-directed and choreographed The Book of Mormon and did both jobs on Aladdin.

"Shooting Star" was written as Hercules's opening ballad and cut from the film for being too wistful. "Go the Distance" replaced it.

The Muses are played as a gospel group, and five Gospel Truth numbers appear on the London cast recording.

A bridge spans the proscenium and drops to mark the crossing into the Underworld, alongside rotating columns and a large LED backdrop.

The hydra is a many-headed puppet, and Hades turns into a much larger puppet version of himself.

Covent Garden, on the Piccadilly line, is about 250 metres away, five minutes on foot through the piazza.
Holborn, on the Central and Piccadilly lines, is a few minutes further. Neither is step-free, since Covent Garden's lifts stop short of the platforms; the nearest step-free station is Tottenham Court Road.

Theatre Royal Drury Lane - Facilities and Accessibility

Bars and eating spaces are spread through the building: the Rotunda, two steps up from the foyer, the Cecil Beaton Bar, the restored Grand Saloon at Royal Circle level and the Terrace.

The gift shop and Cecil Beaton Bar are reached step-free from the Russell Street entrance. The 2021 restoration added twenty cubicles and five accessible toilets, and interval drinks can be pre-ordered.
Step-free access is through the Russell Street entrance, where access hosts meet you. The main Catherine Street doors have four steps up to the foyer.
One passenger lift serves all four levels. Wheelchair spaces are in the Stalls, Royal Circle and Grand Circle, with none in the Balcony, where the lift leaves two steps up to row B.
Accessible toilets are on the Stalls, Royal Circle and Grand Circle levels. Hearing assistance is an infra-red system, with headsets and hearing-aid loops from front of house on arrival, and the GalaPro app adds subtitles, closed captioning and audio description on your own phone.
